Depending on the execution of that system, it may be actually quite nice. It forces people to discuss everything in the thread, which is closer to the original Mafia game in real life. In themed games it might prevent role gathering.

It also raises the bad guys actual chance of winning :/ since in themed games, when you get to the end you can't really hide at all, since there is no risk in exposing your role, unlike in a mafia game, where exposing your role without have a follow up plan is a death sentence.

You can't really expose your role in Mafia games, since you could as well say you're a villager. In themed ones it's actually bad, especially when the host screwed up. Revealing your role, saying you're a goodie and not paying any consequences, that's something that should be avoided at all costs.
