As for Naruto and Sakura, screw Sakura she put Naruto through too much pain in the past, let her run after Sasuke.[/b]
And we all know children can't grow up, right? Sakura's crush on Sasuke was childish infatuation - she liked his looks and his brooding, mature personality. The only pain I recall Sakura putting Naruto through was the pain of not returning is feelings, but Sasuke did the same to Sakura, only a much bigger scale (he pretty much said "Fuck you and this village, bitch!" when he almost killed Naruto and left to train with <strike>Michael Jackson</strike>Orochimaru). Despite their rocky beginning, Sakura as largely stood by Naruto (the latter half of Part I and all through Part II). Any other pain that she may have caused, Naruto took willingly to make her happy (his promise to bring Sasuke back springs to mind).
If anyone's interested in some (lengthy, but in well thought-out and in-depth) fannish reading on NaruSaku, I highly recommend the three parts of
this ship manefesto (← link to part one). It's what made me go "
Waaait a minute, here."

In my opinion, her level of all around ass-kickery more than makes up for her general uselessness when she was twelve.
