There is a dimension within another, a dimension created by an artificial god by the name of Yggdrasil. The dimension was created for the entertainment of other, digitally transmitted to monitors of all kinds. Mostly, Computers. At the center of this dimension, this Digital World, Yggdrasil is the core of the network, and its source of data.
Though artificial, it was still a dimension, and Yggdrasil was its god. As its duty would suggest, it created life from the data it spawned, resulting in many different monsters of shape and size. Because they were made from data, because they were a digital existence in an artificial world, they became known as Digital Monsters, or "Digimon" for short.
These Digimon were much like humans in personality, and will. The only difference being that Digimon are eternal. While humans die and go into an afterlife, Digimon are ageless and when they do die, they become reborn with no memories of their past what-so-ever.
For a time, the longest in fact, Digimon and humans never interacted with one another; the two dimensions were separate, and it was meant to be that way. However, the human scientists changed that thanks to curiosity. Researching this digital world, they accidentally broke the walls between it and the Human world. The Digimon, and Yggdrasil, needless to say was concerned and disturbed, but some of them were as curious as the humans. So, as a result of this, The humans explored the Digital world, and some of the more curious Digimon did the same for the Human world.
Neither visitors, sadly, were welcomed, and the result was a war between both Humans and Digimon. The battles in both worlds were quite devastating, the "eternal" Digimon were being obliterated by the power of science and technology, but pure brutal instinct were killing families in the human world. The line was drawn right in the middle.
Until the humans figured out about Yggdrasil. Despite being a god who gave life to the digital world, he was still the computer core. If they took him out, the Digimon would go with him. Knowing this, the humans pulled their best to the digital world to destroy Yggdrasil, and after many failed attempts, they succeeded through an E.M.P. Missile, that is, a missile, that can generate large amounts of E.M.Ps. The humans were relentless in destroying Yggdrasil when the EMPs shut him down, until he finally broke completely. Resulting in the obliteration of the Digimon, and the network being destroyed. The world was saved, and the Digimon were all dead.
For 10 years, people have forgotten the "Digiwar", the network was fixed up by re-routing the routes together instead of to Yggdrasil, and no one has ever heard nor seen a Digimon again. Those who remember it simply wish to forget and move on with their life.
For one, however, this wasn't enough.
Doctor Mace Sabath was interested in the Digiwar that he witnessed a decade ago, and thought if it was possible to create another. His theory was that the reason the war started was not only because we feared the Digimon, but because they feared the humans. They had free will, and that included the will to give their opinion upon them all, as well as the will to be curious about them. Some even wanted, he was convinced, to enslave them all, or possibly kill them. Convinced by this, he wondered if he could create another who would keep things under control, who would be able to live their lives under his will without being threatened by others. If this was possible, he could remake the exploration but in a non-hostile environment, where nothing would attack them as they entered.
And so he created a new computer core, far stronger then Yggdrasil ever was. It was Code-named "P.A.R.A.G.O.N.", and as the name implies, it was designed to be the Paragon of Digimon. He asked the routers to use this as computer core and told them about it. They didn't like it; they hated the first war and wouldn't do anything that might spark a sequel. However, the possibility to see what they admit was a beautiful world, and without the hostiles no less, were indeed worth it.
Paragon was then established, and like Yggdrasil, he created the Digimon. Except they were different. Though they had personality, they were completely under Paragon's control, worshiping only his will and nothing else. The people who wanted to explore the digital world again changed their minds after it was created again. The reason: Pure Paranoia. As long as Paragon is to keep the Digimon from attacking again, however, they will keep him up and running. Ever since, Digimon became what they were suppose to be in the first place, entertainment for the humans.
However, The perfection of Paragon was to come to an end. Someone created the "Perfect Virus for the Perfect Machine", for reasons unknown. As a result this Virus, Code-named "E.X.O.D.O.S." was released into the network and infecting the control system of Paragon. Paragon was able to strike back at the virus that corroded it, but the damage was already done, and the virus wasn't over yet. Some of the Digimon were infected by Exodos' attack on Paragon, and the results were the regaining of Free Will through desire, and even corroded the walls between the dimensions of Digital and Human. Though all of them were corroded by the same thing, they were still under control, some more then others. But the handful who weren't were rejected and cast aside, about to even be Deleted by Paragon, due to them being a threat to his program.
For a while they just ran and hide, until they all found a portal to the Human world, and entered.
The Exodos Virus had an AI of it's own and was quite self-aware. It stared upon the humans and the Digimon from atop the corroded walls and pitied them for their differences and warfare, possibly designed with this by his creator. As a result of this pity, he created a Digivice for each Digimon that escaped Paragon's sight. A connector between both Digimon and human that could combine the will of both, and result in the Digimon's Digivolution.
This Virus, designed to destroy, just might be the saving grace for all of mankind. .....If it doesn't decide to obliterate it all first.
Same rules applied like all the other RPs. With one exception, This RP is a loose with a plot. There IS a plot, but what you do with it is up to you. That said...
There can be more digi-destines, but the 10 first ones are the ones with the most spotlight. The others you'll have to figure out how to make your own digivices. Bear in mind that the digi-destines don't have to all be good. If you want to be evil or neutral, knock yourself out.
