The Black Blood

______________________________________________________________

In 1935 E.C., the continent of Europa is dominated by two superpowers: The Autocratic East Europan Imperial Alliance in the east and a commonwealth of loosely allied democracies known as the Atlantic Federation in the west. The economies of both powers depend on a precious multi-purpose mineral called Ragnite. Its growing scarcity results in the Empire declaring war on the Federation, sparking the Second Europan War. The Empire uses its military superiority to quickly put the Federation on the defensive. Emboldened by their progress and momentum, the Empire decides to invade the neutral Principality of Gallia to seize its rich Ragnite deposits. Alas, the Federation strikes back in the least expected moment and also seeks to claim Galia. Galia itself is not defenceless, as it boast the best tacticians and soldiers. With the rumours of Valkyrur freely rampaging the fields searching for something and unrest in all cities, will destruction be the only conclusion?[/SPOILERA]

The Day Everything Has Changed

Black Blood Rebellion

The Diaries of Johann Oswald Eisen

The day I started my duty, I have not imagined what war really means. There was no going back now, it had to be done. To protect our beloved country and those we love. The first assignment seemed easy, a simple scouting mission. We didn't expect any troubles, and that was our downfall. You shouldn't take war for granted, or it will back at you tenfold. My unit has suddenly entered the centre of a battlefield and all hell broke lose. Every side fought for this scrap of land, the dying and injured were shown no mercy. The Empire, the Federation, Galia, they were all after us. We did not understand it, I did not understand it. Is this really war? Where Death is just around the corner and you cant walk away.

One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure its worth watching.

I feel no pain now dear mother,

But oh, I am so dry!

O take me to our garden,

And leave me there to die

- The Battle of Bruhl continues -

In the chaos amidst the fog of war, our brave soldiers fought for what they fought was the just cause. Everyone had their reasons, every solution was fighting, and every consequence was death. How many will join the Goddess of Death today...

Reloading!

I got you covered!

Vanguard on 6 o'clock! Firing!

*as the rocket flies past, the target successfully evaded the shot*

Watch out! Snipers! Duck!

*it was just a matter of seconds*

Thanks, if it weren't for you, I'd be dead stranger. Lets retreat, this place is getting to hot. I can hear they have brought cavalry.

And so the Death Goddess did not reap any brave souls. As she strolled through the battlefield, something caught her interest. An unusual view indeed.

Are you sure about that? I mean, can it even be done?

Well, we're not going to question the HQ. Aim the cannons at our target. Ready? FIRE!

*the tank bullet flew straight at it's pray, the force of impact was sure to smash the poor soul*

Oh shi... what just happened... GET US OUT OF HERE NOW!!!

There are sights that still amaze even the Death Goddess. But their time will come soon. It always comes. Moving along a desolated path, past the walls, in a deep forest. Even here you can smell blood of the fallen. But none worthy enough to join the ranks of Valhalla. But she sensed something nearby. Ah, that's something to watch, finally a soul to join me in my journey, thought to herself with a smile. She won't come back empty handed afterall.

*the fencers blade was about to cut through a soldier, but it just pass through him without dealing any damage*

This is just not my day, sighed the Death Goddess. She could hear lancers firing in the distance, but knew that wouldn't bring anything good. Not for Death at least. Ignoring the sounds of fighting in the distance, she moved on. At least she wanted to, but the disturbance she felt has paralyzed her. Who could possibly bring fear into Death herself, she thought. She knew that aura, she sensed it centuries ago, if not millennia. An ancient powerful enough to change the tides of war. The Death smiled, knowing that the days of boredom will soon end.

In the forest depths there was a secret place with a sacred spring in the middle, the forest crown blocking all sunlight. On the small spring stood a mysterious figure woven in black flames. As the hero of this tale walked closer, admired the beautiful figure. She looked like a young angel of darkness, but her eyes were of those that seen too much. She spoke in an enchanting and beautiful voice that no mortal woman could ever dream off.

You have come. You can feel it also, can't you? The blood boiling in you. The need to change this world.

Yes. You... you can help end this war? It has brought nothing but destruction.

I will help you my knight, I will. Come closer, drink my blood, seal the contract. With it, you will be able to end everything. It will show you the truth, bless you with options and the curse to chose.

As the night falls, the hero awakens on the verge of the forest. It was like a dream, but it wasn't. It is time to save this world even if it does want to be saved. It is time to start the Black Rebellion! And the followers came. They heard the heart that was pure. They know it was willing to sacrifice their own lives to save everyone. They will become the reapers and kill everyone responsible for destroying hope for a better future.

The Death Goddess carefully observed this event. The witch has made her move, and if she wins, all war will cease. But if she plays her cards well, only destruction and death will remain. It is time to enter the game as well.

Arise, Valkyria. Your adversaries want to bring war to this land... Kill them all!

Act I

Choices that were

- night, Galia's southern border -

The battle between nations was at its best. Soldiers didn't even remember what they were fighting for anymore, but it did not matter. The enemy was right in front of them, and they were happy it was so simple. As the battle continued, great powers clashed on the battlefield and wrought havoc. On the surrounding cliffs, in stood two figures woven in black.

Witch.

Death Goddess.

It seems the battle has started. Would you like to make a friendly bet? Lets say... your soul?~

You may be a Goddess, but there are things that even you cannot do.

Oh, we'll see, we'll see~

The two have stopped their conversation when they felt the balance of powers have started to sway. The Death could not but smirk seeing the current development. A huge concentration of forces have surrounded a strange looking tank that belonged to Galia. In the confusion they blew up the tank, not caring about their allegiance. This are the rules of war and everyone should be ready for those. Luckily the tank crew managed to escape the assault and hid in the nearest forest.

It is a test you must pass if you wish to move forward.

As the female pilot run into the woods, she felt something was wrong. Something... dark. As she turned around, the black flames engulfed her in an instant. As the figure woven in flames turned around, he faced a Valkyrur.

Hello Valkyrur. I'm guessing she was also your prey? Or will I have the pleasure of fighting you as well?

*the Valkyrur glimpses at the ashes and turns back, but stops before going back, murmuring her last words in a sad and calm tone*

...Was it really worth it?

You're a real monster, you know that?~

In the Atlantic Federation's camp final preparations were made to reinforce the battling troops and win the battle. The plan was fail-proof, nothing could have gone wrong. No human could stop their righteous advance. No human indeed. The sudden noise have snapped Jonhzy out of his thoughts. What's going on, he thought. The enemy should not have penetrated our camp. As he left the tent, he instantly understood. Two Valkyrurs were rampaging and destroying everything in their way. He could not believe the ease at which they were reaping his troops.

Lord Ravenloft! We have to escape, now!

Ah, Dominnique, perfect timing. If we could only convince them to join our side. Just think about all the oppo...

The two could not escape, it was not possible the moment the hunters set their eyes on them. Despite their goal, the Valkyrurs walked away in opposite directions. The Death Goddess frowned, but then sighed at this view. A thing that happened too often in the past, she thought to herself.

Is that your grand plan Death Goddess? For the hounds of war to randomly spill blood?

It doesn't matter, in the end, I'll be the victor. I always am. Afterall, war never changes. You should know it by now Witch. Ah, they are at it again. They never learn.

On the other side of the battlefield a group of Lancer escorted by Shock Troopers was heading towards their target. They were up for a surprise when they saw their target. Bigger than any other tank, they knew they would need serious firepower. Luckily for them the tank seemed dormant, but after giving it a shot and causing serious damage, they withdrew back to camp. The very presence of such a tank are grave news and they had to quickly report about it to the headquarters.

Not all lancers could claim such success. At least not of actually hitting a tank. Questions arise whether they teach young Lancer cadets that their weapons should be used to destroy tanks, and not run blindly after troops. And tanks should not fire at distant targets that are beyond their grasp. But that's a tale for another story.

The lonely sniper camped in a bush, waiting for her prey. And a prey she saw. The hunt is on, murmured Marina. The best sniper in the whole squad they say. It never got into her head, always calm and focused. She never misses. Unless the bullet is miraculously immolated in the air. Marina was left speechless and quickly retreated from her position, fearing that staying there for longer might attract unwanted attention.

But it was not the end of the story. Elena has tried her strenghts at defeating another foe. This time knowing that she has chosen the right blade, she rushed her target. The surprised look on her prey's face when she ambushed her target from behind, and an even greater surprise when the blade stopped. Both combatants were equally surprised, but Elena was faster and more experienced, she knew retreating now was a better idea. But her target, there was something strange about it, but she dismissed her thoughts hearing the ongoing battle in front of her.

The Witch was greatly saddened, and Death knew what would come next. She already saw the ending. She saw it so many times.[/SPOILERA]

Act II

Soldier's Duty

Witch, not even you can stop the natural order of things.

- Night of December -

Cold winter has painted the land in white and red. Soldiers becoming weary of the constant fighting, weapons having their endurance tested. The next battle has started and rain of bullets and fire invaded the peaceful night. The female trooper worrying about her family home, the old veteran thinking what present to send his little granddaughter for Christmas, the young and rash soldier thinking how to survive. Ah, but this is not the place nor time for worries. The Death Goddess could not decide whether to be happy or not. She knew people would die. But those deaths will not change anything. The progress is too slow, she needeth to change the rules.

Yo!

You again? Heh, you saved my life last time as well, I'll trust that you'll cover my back this time as well?

You know you can count on me!

Lets do it kiddo!

As the duo teamed up, they plough through the battlefield like an unstoppable force. No soldiers could stand in their way, even the best snipers, lancers or fencers could not land a hit. A perfect death machine, smiled the Death Goddess at her joke. When they finally arrived at their target, their efforts were rewarded. The Lancer aimed and the rocket hit. They did not understood their mistake at the time. The Witch saw this spectacle at the opposite cliff.

Is this really necessary? You control the rules of war, yet you treat it like a game.

You may be thousand years old, but you're still a child at heart. The decision was theirs, they were provided with options and chose for themselves. To defy fate is to embrace death.

*a cannon bullet has flew past the black figure*

It seems we are attracting attention Witch. Come, on the opposite end of the canyon you will see something more interesting than what is left here.

Within instant they appeared in a different location, yet still dark and cold. Could it be even colder? The witch did not care, she always liked this season. It let her forget and remember. The loud noises brought her back to the battlefield. Gunfire? She saw a lonely Lancer fighting of hordes of enemies. Brave, but meaningless. She could not help but remember him from somewhere, but she knew it was for naught, as he would be dead by the end of the day. If he were only to join her fray, her plans might have had a greater chance to succeed. But it is not like her to interfere. No, the Death Goddess was watching, and even she could not so openly break the rules. Ah, sighed the Witch and remembered his name. Dahau, a great warrior from the Empire. Death Goddess smirked, as if reading the Witch's mind.

Brave and strong, but in war such people die first.

As if foretelling the future, the soldier was shot in the heart, having enough breath last to utter his last words, "I'm sorry." His corpse abandoned and forgotten, the rest of the soldiers moved to reinforce their comrades, not caring for the dead. A much greater foe was in sight, the Juggernaut of Atlantic Federation, Avalon. The damage from previous battles was still not repaired, but it was not necessary to limit themselves when fighting against soldiers.

Hmph, so much confidence, humans never change.

Suddenly there was silence. The soldiers moved aside. The figure that just arrived was a shining beacon of hope. But it was not hope, the lance and shield were the regalia of despair. And the blue beam was not merciful, it brought destruction to the pride of the Federation. Seeing no hope left, the soldiers run away like a disorganised mob, abandoning their weapons and fallen comrades.

The Death Goddess should be proud that her Valkyrurs destroyed such a behemoth. But she felt only disappointment. What happened to other Valkyrurs, she thought. She could not believe they defied her call. For now it did not matter, as the Black Knight has also failed his task and went after the royal blood while they were still at full strength. She could prolong this and they would all die with time, like always. But she needed the Witch to understand that meaninglessness of her work. Such unsightly things. Disappointment has given birth to nuisance. And that she could deal with. The soldiers that no one remembers about, she will take their souls and banish them to hell. Afterall, such unsightly people should not occupy Death's head, while she has a much bigger prey in mind.[/SPOILERA]

Act III

Behind Her Blue Flames

- Citadel Ghirlandaio -

In the midst of spring, the Galian forces have attempted to recapture the Ghirlandaio Citadel. Using the element of surprise, they have breached the main gates and the battle continues in the main plaza. Unbeknownst to them, the Atlantic Federation could not refuse to use this opportunity to seize the control of Citadel themselves, striking a decisive blow against the battling forces. They were not the only ones watching the fight, and it was not to them to decide the outcome.

The initial assault went well for the brave Galian troops, albeit they have suffered heavy loses as well. The veteran of many wars, Largo Potter have led his squad to their final destination. If the Death Goddess were here, she'd surely smirk, as their destination was a lethal trap set by the renowned Imperial Commander Radi Jaeger. Even despite being surrounded, they did not lose any confidence and were focused on the battle even more. But they stood no chance when the Galian leader has fallen to a tank cannon bullet. His heavy armour limited his movements too much and in the end, couldn't protect him from such heavy fire.

The upper levels of the Citadel did not witness any fighting yet. The Imperial heroes were preparing to reinforce the troops down below and capture the Galian Troops in a pincer attack. They did not predict that the Valkyrur would launch a surprise attack. No one could, as it didn't make sense. What was their objective? There was nothing of importance here. The soldiers could do nothing but watch the Valkyrurs slay their comrades, the Blue Flames dance macabre reminded them of madness. Only a Darcsen warrior gathered enough courage to face them and give his comrades enough time to retreat. The Valkyrurs instantly focused him, as if he was their prey. He might have stood a chance against one Valkyrur, but two were too much even for his Darcsen pride. Within moments his heavy armour was destroyed and his life taken by the other. Zig of the Calamity Raven has fallen.

Lord Maximilian did not care for the battle outside. What was in front of him has infuriated him greatly, losing his normal calm stature. A traitor was caught, and no ordinary traitor. It was Lydia Agute, once loyal aide of Calamity Raven's Dahau, now a follower of the Black Knight. There was only one thing that could be done.

Kill her!

With an execution on spot, and the word spreading around that a Black Rebelion traitor was executed, it would indeed help his cause. If he had time to use it. The guards have suddenly caught on fire, but the flames were those of darkness.

I was too late. You... you will pay for that! I have come for your head Maximilian!

With those words spoken, the black flames have engulfed the Emperor of the Imperial Alliance and not even ash remained. It did not change the fact that Avan was dead. With that he quickly retreated into the cover of shadows before anyone could spot him.

The Ancient Witch did not waste her time as well. She found one of the Valkyrurs and used her talents to lure her into a trap. The Atlantic Federation has prepared for an arrival of the sacred warrior, and the fallen from grace commander of the Avalon was the bait. Balthazar Avarice was an experienced soldier and commander, and knew what was expected of him. To defeat the Valkyrur, he needed to sacrifice his life. It was a fair punishment for his failures, he thought. As if provoking the wolf with his thought, the blue Valkyrur stood in front of him. He had to buy time for his allies to prepare the ambush, but at the instant the spear pierced right through his armour and his heart. Before he died, he saw the Valkyrur get surrounded by the finest soldiers. It was her end, he could finally have his share of sleep.

Human soldiers, run away now, or face my wrath!

Do not fear her brave soldiers! She knows well it is her demise!

To Selvaria's surprise, it was her, the Nameless Witch that stood there. She now understood her situation. The Black Witch have lured her into a trap and personally made sure she would fall here... not the smartest move, she though, not even an Ancient Valkyrur could kill her without consequences. She dismissed her weapons, and as they landed, she started slowly moving towards the Witch.

You have caught me.

*one step forward*

I am all yours.

*two more steps*

And you will be mine!

The soldiers have started shooting at the defenceless Valkyrur, but it was already too late, the gathered energy exploded in a great blast. And with the death of the first Valkyrur, storm clouds have gathered and heavy rain has fallen. The wind blew hard, silencing the nearby battle.

On the outskirts of the plateu, stood a solitary figure woven in black and wielding a scythe. She did ignored the rain and wind, and just laughed. The ink black night became even darker and darker, the shadows hid themselves fearing what was next to come. The hunt is on.[/SPOILERA]

Act IV

The Longest Night

- Barious desert, night -

Just say a word and I will save you.

Death, not everything is decided yet.

With those words Death Goddess has left the Black Witch. The Valkyrur stood there and waited. After the chaos she has caused, she knew she would attract a lot of attention. And that was the plan, to buy as much time as possible for her knight to fulfil the duty. She has already heard the incoming army, coming with tanks and full battalions of soldiers. It was not like they could harm her, and did not even hope this could end in a painless way. It was the Galian army, the blue uniforms blending into the depths of the night. To her surprise, it was not fire that she heard first, but a call to surrender. And so she obliged. She did not intend to fight in the first place, it was not the plan. She could only commend the Galian force for being so well prepared, it seems the Galian Empress is trying to avoid casualties as much as she can. A particular sight caught her attention, as some of the troops belonged to the Atlantic Federation. Could it be that they finally understood?

You are a fool Witch. No matter the outcome, I will always win.

The Death Goddess observed the spectacle from a nearby cliff. With one feet she stood on a fresh corpse in a red uniform. It's not time that devours the empires, but Death itself, she thought to herself before she disappeared.

The alliance was necessary to capture the Witch, but it was just a temporary thing. The battle have continued, the Barious desert had a stench of blood that no other battlefield had. And it was still only the beginning, as it seems the Galian have betrayed the Federation. Without any remorse, their best sniper have shot one of the most prized warriors of the Atlantic Federation, Elena of Thousand Blades. If she had the time to utter last words, they would be those of hate towards the cowardly snipers.

The ongoing battle between the two nation have sparkled the interest of Valkyrurs as well. But it seems they no longer target their prey randomly. As the blue flames appeared, the soldiers started running in confusion. But it was all easier, as she already knew where to find her prey. The noble of the Atlantic Federation that has betrayed his Empress and joined the Black Rebellion. His final days, as he understands the mistake of defying death. The Valkyrur did not waste time, quickly charged her lance and fired. No mercy, no second thoughts. The job was done, but she forgot that straying from her goal was a dangerous thing. The second remaining Valkyrur has quickly ambushed Alicia, not giving her the chance to counterattack. She managed to succefully disarm her, but was distracted when she intended to deal the finishing blow.

The days of your rampage are over Valkyrur.

Who do you think I am mortal?! You dare face me?...

The Valkyrur instantly felt something was wrong. That human could not be a mere mortal. She did not pay attention to the retreating Valkyrur, as a far worse opponent stood in front of her. She entered a defensive stance, but the moment black flames engulfed her, she had to throw away her lance and shield to not be burned alive. She just stood there in shock, not understanding what has happened. The Black Knight just stood there and waited. Not daring to fight the mysterious stranger unarmed, Alliase has retreated as well. When she was out of sight, the Knight fell down from exhaustion.

So this is it, without the support of the Witch's power, my life will just burn away sooner than expected. It's not like my life was important, there's still one thing I need to do.

With those words the Knight have stood up and moved onwards without looking behind.[/SPOILERA]

Final Act

Pyrrhic Victory

- Capital of Galia, Randgriz -

Everything will end today.

The Death Goddess has strolled through the main street of the capitol city. She has summoned the remaining Valkyrurs here for a reason. Pathetic, she thought. To get influenced by the witch so much, it was not like her.

The Blue Witch Alicia has found her target. A brave soul and a veteran of many battles, but even after losing her godly powers, it was still an easy prey. Within seconds the renowned soldier has fallen.

You really thought you could escape me?

That voice. Alicia remembered it. To get caught like that twice in a row, she really deserved what was coming to her, she thought. Alliase shot without hesitation, happy to finally fulfil her goal. With the fought of victory, being the last Valkyrur to stand, she did not think anything could go wrong anymore. Deja vu. Just like last time, the Black Knight stood before her.

No! Not now! I'm the victor! I will not let you interfere!

With those words she raised her gun ready to fire. But at the same time a sniper bullet has pierced her leg.

It's over Valkyrur. With this my life will burn away, but I will take you with me and bring peace to this world.

The Black Knights, once known as Welkin Gunther, walked closer to the injured Valkyrur and placed his hand on her forehead. The black flames has quickly engulfed her, leaving nothing but ashes. And with that, Welkin has fallen to the ground with a subtle smile, breathing no more.

Using the confusion created by the Valkyrur, Death Goddess has easily entered the royal palace, leaving a trail of dead bodies. She knew that the two remaining empresses were staying here, she could feel them. But only one was her goal, only one was enough to end her eternal struggle. The Goddess has reached the main hall, and both of them were there. The guards stood in fear as the figure woven in black approached them. She did not care for anything but her prey. Without hesitation she summoned her dark scythe and slashed the nearest empress. And with that only one remained. But the guards snapped out and realizing the situation, they shot the assassin. It's not like they could hurt Death itself, but her goal was already fulfilled, she didn't mind letting them feel win. With that thought, she disappeared, leaving only her clothes behind.

Do not waste the opportunity others has given you child.[/SPOILERA]
