Yeah Ive had this game pre ordered since early 2006 lol. I can't wait for it to come out next week!

This is from a Lost Odyssey thread I made at another Forum:

Taken directly off of a forum thread at GameFaqs

Lost Odyssey background info:

Discussions about Lost Odyssey's production began in late 2003, but actual production started in early 2004. Lost Odyssey is to be released on December 6 in Japan, January 2008 for Asia outside Japan, and February 2008 for America, Europe, and other parts of the world. Delays are possible.

Lost Odyssey is a Japanese role-playing game being developed by Mistwalker, the company behind Blue Dragon, with help from several former Square employees and studio Feel Plus, a subsidiary of Microsoft. The story is being written by Kiyoshi Sigematsu, an award winning Japanese novelist, and is working on the story sequences directly with the game's director and Mistwalker founder, Hironobu Sakaguchi, the father of Final Fantasy.

The man responsible for the artistic look of Lost Odyssey is Takehiko Inoue, the artist of famous mangas such as Vagabond and Slam Dunk. Takamasa Ohsawa also has a hand in character artwork as well as full control in environmental design. In the music department, famed composer of many Square titles, Nobuo Uematsu, has been recruited to create a soundtrack that will reflect inner emotions.

General Lost Odyssey info:

Lost Odyssey's story is about Kaim Argonar, an immortal man with no memories of his past, but as the game progresses, begins to rediscover his past through dreams. 30 years after the world had discovered magic that had infected the soil of the planet, Kaim is caught up in a political upheaval between his world's three main kingdoms as they all proceed towards a simultaneous magical and industrial revolution. It should be noted that this game does not take place on Earth. Obviously, the theme of Lost Odyssey will be a big change from Mistwalker's first game, Blue Dragon. In this deep and dark sounding story, Sakaguchi promised that some humor is added as well. A straight play-through of Lost Odyssey's main quest is said to last between 40 and 50 hours.

Like Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey will span over multiple DVD disks. Four of them. Take this however you want. This is probably the largest amount of DVDs used for just one game this gen. This is probably due to the 20 hours worth of CG and real-time cut scenes used to illustrate the storyline.

Achievements will be based on exploration away from the main quest, but there could also be achievements for that as well.

Evidently, Kaim won't be with you throughout the entire game. For some unknown reason, there will be times where you must play without the game's protagonist.

When Kaim recalls his past through his dreams, these memories are presented in the form of short stories penned by Kiyoshi Shigematsu, and once unlocked are available to read at any time under the "A Thousand Years of Dreams" menu option. These short stories are presented in a short 5-10 minute segments of text with no voice, only background music. There are a total of 34 short story episodes. These short stories may be skipped when you encounter them in-game and can read them at any time in the "A Thousand Years of Dreams" menu option.

Lost Odyssey is being lip synced in English, but will also be dubbed in other languages. Such as Japanese, Korean, Chinese, simplified Chinese, Italian, Spanish, French and German.

Hironobu Sakaguchi: "Not only will you have the Japanese voices but there are also other languages such as English, French, German and Spanish. So you can decide to play with the Japanese voices and then choose the subtitles in your own language."

Ray Nakazato: "We had 400 [locations] we had to make, so some had to be cut to make others better. We've got about 300 characters."

Online capabilities have been said to be similar to Blue Dragon's. They plan on releasing downloadable content to expand Lost Odyssey's 40-50 hour game.

Lost Odyssey will have a fixed camera system, but it will move to provide realism through camera vibration and focus effects. You are able to use the triggers to zoom in and out while exploring on foot, and also move the camera up, down, left, and right. You can also run in the game.

There will be a world map to travel around in, and a vehicle to help you move around it. A boat and a train have been seen in the game.

The voice actor's names are still unknown, but a Hollywood director has directed the voice acting. More details later this November.

Lost Odyssey characters:

Kaim Argonar is a man who has lived for 1,000 years. Even with the ferocity of the battles he encounters, his body will not perish. Though tormented with 1,000 years of memories, he goes about the land as a mercenary of war.

Seth Balmore is a woman who, like Kaim, has lived for 1,000 years. Undaunted by life, she has a strong will to not give in to the memories of the past, and faces the mystery of her own immortality.

Ming is the woman in blue on the ship shown in the TGS 07 trailer. She is the queen of one of the kingdoms and is also an immortal.

Sed is the old man in red who uses the gun. Apparently, he is the son of Seth Balmore.

Jansen is the young male with the pony-tail hair and the staff. Apparently, he's the comic relief of the game, but don't let that distract you from the awesome magic user that he is. Jansen is mortal.

Tolten made an appearance in Sakaguchi's demonstration during Microsoft's pre-TGS conference. He is the cowardly man in gold who was served the poisoned soup.

Sarah is the woman with the librarian glasses you saw in the trailer. She is mortal, and appears to have a connection with the children Mack and Cook.

Mack is one of the children. The name may be spelled differently.

Cook is also one of the children. The name may be spelled differently.

There are a total of 9 playable characters: Kaim, Sarah, Seth, Jansen, Ming, Tolten, Sed, and two children. Out of these 9 characters, four are mortal and five are immortal.

Battle system:

Lost Odyssey relies on random enemy encounters, but since there are many event-based battles, Mistwalker is reducing the number of redundant combat encounters and putting more depth in each battle instead. Though there are a total of nine playable characters, you may only take a maximum of five party members into battle with you.

Lost Odyssey's battle system is turn based with some real time elements. Lost Odyssey operates on the same turn-based principles as Final Fantasy. A turn indicator in the lower left-hand corner of the screen shows the order in which the characters will attack. Certain attacks, such as a powerful magic spell, will take a bit longer to charge than a standard physical attack. During a battle, for example, Kaim was able to attack with his sword multiple times while Sarah prepared a fiery magical assault.

There is another element in this game when a melee attack is executed, a contracting ring onscreen will appear, and letting go of the right trigger at the right moment will give the damage dealt a boost. In the game's menu, you can equip one of around 150 combat rings that you'll be able to find around the game world onto each character. These rings have a variety of power levels and elemental affinities. So if a character is equipped with a fire-based weapon, you can match him/her up with a fire-based combat ring for a little extra damage. During combat, you can use these rings by holding the right trigger while attacking. If you do so, you'll see two large rings appear on the screen, the larger of which will quickly shrink to overlap with the smaller. If you hit the switch just as the two rings overlap, you'll be able to execute a more powerful attack than you normally would.

Kaim (and possibly the other immortals) won't actually be learning new skills. He recalls them instead (he's been around so long he's forgotten quite a few things). The skills and moves Kaim "recalls" throughout the course of the game will depend on what accessories he has equipped. Regarding equipment in Lost Odyssey, there's only weapon, ring and accessory. Apparently, no armor..

Lost Odyssey will employ a wall system, which will require players to ensure that the front guards protect the rear. The invisible wall reduces the amount of damage your party takes, but it can be broken down. There is a gauge on the top-right corner of the battle sequences that represents how much protection the front row gives to the back row with their wall system, which goes up as the characters in front deal and receive damage, and drops as the rear characters take damage. The higher the meter goes, the more effective the protection is, and the less damage characters in the back take. Enemies will also use these formations and will rely on the timing based physical attack system (mentioned above), spells, and items to breech those walls.

The menu consists of the options Attack, Defend, Magic, and Item.

Magical attacks in Lost Odyssey are much more powerful than physical attacks, so sorcerers must be protected with the front line while they do their own thing. Spells are divided into White Magic, Black Magic, Spirit Magic and Composite Magic.

Another element in Lost Odyssey is the ability for immortal characters to gain new skills by absorbing powers from mortal characters. Apparently, only mortal characters can level up and learn magic. You have your basic type of elemental magic (fire, water, earth and wind) but you can also combine them to create spells with different attributes. The only way to give these spells to your immortal comrades is by first leveling up the spell in a mortal and then passing it on. So while you can farm out the best spells from your mortal friends, you'll need to continuously level them up as well or else you'll fall behind the enemies.

There are certain battles where you are able to use the objects in the area during battle. An example is shown where a crane holding a number of explosives was conveniently suspended above a mammoth black monster. After damaging the crane, the crane released its payload and damaged the beast. The Microsoft representative stated that these types of battles would occur about once an hour during normal gameplay.

It was asked if it was possible to beat the boss monsters the old fashioned way by just hacking away at the beast with swords and spells. You can, but your party must be strong enough to do so.

Another feature in Lost Odyssey's combat is during boss battles, your party members will discuss tactics in a manga-esque fashion like a pre-battle cutscene.

Sakaguchi hinted that acquired skills will be needed to equip accessories and that obtainable skills will vary between mortals and immortals in the game.

He also said that item synthesis would be in the game and would work through combining items infused with magical powers along with a basic weapon. If you look closely at the E3 07 trailer, you can see Kaim's sword glow green. And in Microsoft's pre-TGS Lost Odyssey demonstration, Kaim's sword is on fire. These could be an example of item synthesis.

In Lost Odyssey, immortal characters don't die during fights. If Kaim or another immortal character falls in battle, he is automatically revived after a few turns. Mortal characters, however, will still need to be revived via spell or item. If the entire party is passed out at the same time, you lose the game and restart from a save point.
(They are all in Japanese, but still awesome):

Lost Odyssey Gameplay TGS 2007 Part 2

This Game looks EPIC!!! It is being said that it may even surpass past SE epics such as Chrono Triger and FF games.

The fact that the story was written by an actual Novelist (a highly praised Japanese Novelist); and that the story is said to be very deep and enthralling, really peaks my anticipation for this game.

The game play looks amazing as well, and the graphics look beautiful.
----------------------------

The Games been getting a hard time due to it staying a classic turn based RPG (albeit a more advanced turn based system), and due to this it's only been getting average scores. Nobody seems to take into consideration the story when they rate it though, and the story was written by a famous Japanese novelist. I have thread in another forum about Lost Odyssey I'm going to find it and post it here.
