Note that this is based loosely off a game, however the story, enemies, settings, lore and so forth will differ. Only the premise and magic will remain true to this roleplay. Which brings us to me seeking attention for the roleplay. For any interested know that this will likely include approximately five adventurers who can have their own reasons for infiltrating the deep fog. My only limitation is that you must play a human character.

The Legend

King Allant the Twelfth, by channeling the power of souls,
Brought unprecedented prosperity to his northern kingdom of Boletaria.
That is, until the colourless Deep Fog swept across the land.
Boletaria was cut off from the outside world,
And those who dared penetrate the Deep Fog never returned.
But Vallarjax of the royal Twin Fangs broke free from the fog and told the world of Boletaria's plight.
That the Old King Allant had aroused the old one,
The great beast below the Nexus, from its eternal slumber,
And that a colourless fog had swept in unleashing terrible demons.

The demons hunt down men and claim their souls.
Those who lose their souls also lose their minds;
The mad attack the sane, and chaos reigns.

Vallarjax spoke of the enticing power of the Demon Souls.
Each time a Demon claims a human soul,
The Demon's own soul is invigorated by the life force,
And the power of a mature Demon Soul is beyond human imagination.

The legend spread quickly.

Mighty warriors were drawn to the accursed land,
But none have returned.
The colourless Deep Fog slowly creeps beyond Boletaria's borders.
Humankind faces a slow and steady extinction.
The Deep Fog will eventually swallow all lands near and far.

Magic

There are two forms of magic. That attained through soul arts, and that attained through miracles or works of God.

Soul Arts require the magician to channel the power of souls, obtained from the death of a mortal, into powerful force. Though most commonly offensive soul arts also withhold great supportive abilities that can nearly protect a man from death. To channel these arts a catalyst is required; normally in the form of a wand or staff. The material the catalyst is made of slightly affects the result of the soul arts. It should also be noted that catalysts have never been found in a form other than the two previously mentioned. This kind of magic is revered as demonic, and priests preach that though the arts may be powerful, that they are cast through the will of demon's and that magicians and thereby the puppets of demons.

Miracles are, as mentioned above, works of God. It is because of these miracles that such a large portion of the world firmly believes in God's influence and existence. Miracles are limited solely to supportive spells, such as healing, defensive auras, and for the most faithful, the power to reincarnate the recently deceased. Though miracles may not be seen as a front against God, the demons consider it a front against them. All demons have the inherent ability to detect a man of God, and all demons seek the destruction of these men above all.

Are you aware of the severe limitations of the employment of black powder during the time setting? Of the detailed systems required to harness it's power that are very prone to failure? So on and so forth. Present reasonable limitations to black powder in any medieval setting and it ought to be accepted. As I'm well aware of the aforementioned limitations you'll need to provide a good argument.
