Summary

Renton Thurston is a 14-year-old boy who lived with his mechanic grandfather in a backwater town. Every day he dreamed of being with the mercenary "Light Finding Operation (LFO)" aircraft pilot group "Gekkostate" and riding "Trapar" particle waves (a sport called "reffing") with their charismatic leader Holland, especially when faced with his father's acclaimed past or his grandfather's desire to protect him. When a young girl named Eureka riding the original LFO, the "Nirvash typeZERO", asks his grandfather for a tune-up, she inadvertently brings the attention of the military to the garage; as a result, the garage is destroyed and Renton is forced to deliver a new type of interface "Amita Drive" to the Nirvash. After a heated fight in which the Nirvash destroys the military LFOs by unleashing an immense amount of power, Renton is invited into Gekkostate. However, he quickly realizes that behind the facade of a traveling group of mercenaries is a very bitter reality. (ANN)

Theme

Eureka Seven works on a wide variety of themes throughout its story. One of the most prevalent themes in the series is racial and religious tolerance and harmony, which is carried through the characters' relationships as well the series' conflicts. Some of the other more global themes that the series covers consist of issues such as allegories of real world conflicts and wars, current political climates from Japan and abroad, depictions of various subcultures and related musical movements that span several generations, and ties to environmental movements. The series also covers other more personal themes such as parenting, and family, along with a very innocent view of puppy love/love at first sight from Renton and Eureka. (Wikipedia)

Storyline

This anime is a boy grows up to be a man type of anime. In the beginning Renton lives in a small village and knows nothing about the outside world. Eureka comes crashing down with her LFO for a tune up and to make the Nirvash work better, Renton puts in the Amita Drive. Soon after he is then invited into the Gekkostate as the mechanic for the Nirvash. At first he does not know what to do and how to act with everyone but he soons develops bonds with everyone especially with Eureka. This anime really shows the psychological of a boy that soon realizes that what he is doing is saving the world.

Graphics

Mechs and airships look very well done, no dull parts at all. The environmental parts look really realistic also with the warfare and damaged buildings. I personally like the color of the trapar waves they give off, a greenish color and the move that Renton does the 7-color swirl.

9/10

Music

The music of the ed and op is very high beat and catchy. The music during the show is also good, there is a techno beat in the show that you see Renton starts to dance to it.

Characters

The characters are really well made as Renton starts to grow up and learns his place in the world. He really wants to save everyone and protect Eureka the most. He soon goes berserk since Eureka is hurt and he starts on a killing spree without knowing it and soon hits his breakdown. Holland Novak is a very laid back leader but he does fulfill his part of the job. He does teach Renton about the world in more ways then one and falls in love with Talho YÅ«ki.

Overall

I really enjoy watching this series. There is so much to learn from these types of animes and everything you re-watch there is nothing always new. Much like Full Metal Alchemist, they do meet Earth and see the downfall of Earth when Scub Corals started merged with the planet.
